The Grant Park Music Festival is the only free, outdoor classical music festival in the country. In response to the Great Depression of the 1930's, Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak and the President of the Musician's Union, James C. Petrillo came together to create what is now a most beloved and treasured Chicago tradition: the Grant Park Music Festival. The Festival holds symphonic concerts led by master conductors and flawless musicians on the Jay Prtizker Pavilion in Millennium Park. Bring a picnic lunch, and enjoy the beautiful harmonies with a glass of wine. The breathtaking view of the bustling, industrious city around you makes your experience feel complete. Though the Grant Park Music Festival does attract large crowds, everyone is respectful of each other and the orchestra.
