New York has Grand Central, and Chicago has Union Station. This major railroad station was built back in1925 and is still in use as the only intercity rail terminal in Chicago and the third busiest in the United States. In 2012, Union Station was recognized by the American Planning Association as one of America's "Great Places," due to its cultural and historical significance. Traces of the 20th century construction are still strikingly evident, what with its pristine marble floor, great hall and colossal Corinthian columns admired by the 120,000 people passing through the terminal each day. The staff is courteous and helpful at the station; losing your way is never an issue.
